04 / PERFORMANCE

Performance systems prepared for the handover.

Plan DJ equipment, stage furniture and accessories around media, interfaces, monitoring and the venue layout.

Define the performance format

Record whether the setup uses DJ players, controllers, mixers, laptops, external instruments or a combination. List every signal path and identify which elements are performer-owned, venue-supplied or part of the rental requirement.

DJ players, controllers and mixers

Selection criteria include media format, control method, channel count, output type, booth monitoring and compatibility with the planned workflow. Do not substitute a product category for a confirmed interface requirement.

Mixers should be documented by input sources, output destinations, monitoring path and any required recording or communication feed. Prepare a clear diagram for production teams.

Media preparation

Media preparation belongs in the schedule. Record file formats, library structure, backup media and handover ownership. Keep working media and backup media separate. Verify the planned system supports the intended workflow before collection.

Stage and furniture

List tables, stands, laptop supports, monitor positions, cable management items and performance furniture. Stage accessories can affect sightlines, access paths and the position of other departments.

Venue requirements and qualified personnel should govern electrical, lifting and stage decisions. This guide does not provide rigging or unsafe construction instructions.

Monitoring and compatibility

State the monitor position, connector expectation and performer preference. Check the relationship between controller, mixer, computer, media player, booth monitor and house system. A backup should be planned as an operational role, not simply an extra device.

What to prepare and check

  • System diagram and performer workflow.
  • Media and backup plan.
  • Input, output and monitoring notes.
  • Stage footprint and furniture list.
  • Collection, case and return requirements.

Check cables, stands, power interfaces, file compatibility, case labels and documented condition. Follow manufacturer instructions and venue procedures.
